Dr. Yadolah Zarezadeh, Director of International Affairs, Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences, announced the release of the 2025 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings by subject. This ranking, conducted by Times Higher Education (THE), evaluates universities worldwide across various subject areas, including health and medical sciences, engineering, computer science, arts, and humanities.
According to the third edition of the THE World University Rankings methodology, university performance is assessed based on five key areas: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry engagement, and international outlook, utilizing 18 performance indicators.
Dr. Zarezadeh stated that in this year's rankings, 1,015 universities from around the world were evaluated in the fields of medical and medical sciences, among them 30 medical sciences universities from Islamic Republic of Iran participated in this year’s ranking. He added that Kurdistan University of Medical Sciences achieved a global ranking of 501-600 and secured the third position nationally.
The Director of International Affairs also noted that the 2025 evaluation results were derived from the analysis of 157 million citations from 18 million research publications by universities, as well as a survey of over 93,000 scholars.
In the field of health and medical sciences, the University of Oxford, Harvard University, and the University of Cambridge secured the first, second, and third positions globally, respectively. These achievements highlight the continuous efforts of the world's leading universities in enhancing the quality of education and research in medical and medical sciences.
Dr. Zarezadeh emphasized that the successful presence of Iranian universities in this international ranking marks a significant step toward elevating the country's scientific standing on the global stage and reflects the qualitative and quantitative growth of research and education in medical sciences in Iran.
